(C) The UK still supports the Sri Lanka Contact Group in principle but would like more detail about it - i.e., what are the expected inputs and the anticipated outputs/results? FCO Sri Lanka and Bangladesh Section Head Simon Lever told Poloff this in reply to ref A demarche September 11. Lever was reiterating the position we reported ref B. Meanwhile, Lever confirmed FCO is working with the Home Office to identify one or more suitable participants for the September 27 meeting in Washington. ¶3. (C) Action Requested: We would be grateful for further points from the Department that we can share with FCO to convince the UK to participate enthusiastically in this initiative.
