Lusty said the UK agrees with those points and is also pressing appropriate African states to support quick action on re-hatting AMIS as a UN operation. He said the UK stresses the importance of handling the issue in a way that is sensitive towards African feelings, and of supporting AMIS during the transition period. He said HMG is working closely with the EU and is open to a role for NATO, and suggested it would be helpful if NATO could make clear what it is able to offer.
