1. (C) PolMilOff delivered reftel demarche on November 30 to
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Security Policy staffer
Bostjan Jerman and on December 1 to Ministry of Interior
European Affairs and International Cooperation Office Head
Lilijana Sipec. On December 4, Slovenian Police official
Andrej Robnik told PolMilOff that the GoS would support the
extension of the mandate for the International Police
Training Center (IPTC) in Jordan and that the five Slovenian
police trainers currently stationed there are prepared to
stay in country until the end of February 2007. Robnik
commented that "when we gave the original commitment to the
IPTC we said that we would stay until the end of the
mission...with the mission being extended, you can count on
us to be there until it ends." Robnik said that the Ministry
of Interior would likely make the decision public in the next
two weeks, saying that they were currently in the process of
preparing the paperwork for the government. He stated that
the Ministry of Interior will not need to get any additional
approvals and that he expected no problems with the
extension.
2. (SBU) Robnik also told PolMilOff that Minister of Interior
Dragutin Mate and Slovenian Police Director General Joze
Remsek canceled their announced five day trip to Jordan (they
were supposed to leave on December 7, 2006) due to the
"internal situation regarding the Roma" (reftel b, c, d).
