¶1. (C) COM spoke with MFA State Secretary (and soon to be
Slovenian Ambassador to NATO) Bozo Cerar on October 26 and
delivered reftel points regarding NATO enlargement and the
Riga Summit. To COM's comment that the US would be
supportive of Croatia's bid in 2008, Cerar reaffirmed
Slovenia's support for further enlargement of NATO, calling
for the need to maintain an open door policy that will let
countries join when they have met all the necessary
requirements, including specifically Macedonia and Albania.
Cerar also said that the GoS would be supportive of
Montenegro and Bosnia & Herzegovina's efforts to become
members of the Partnership for Peace.
¶2. (SBU) BIO NOTE. Cerar, who previous to being the
Slovenian Ambassador to Poland in 2003-2004 was head of MFA's
NATO Office, is expected to leave his position as State
Secretary and take his new position as Slovenian Ambassador
