(C) Interlocutors at Portugal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs
received the reftel points regarding the potential
resettlement of protected migrants in Portugal and agreed to
submit the proposal to the MFA's formal review process. Each
of the interlocutors was pleased to hear that the Office of
the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
formally encouraged the program. International Organizations
Deputy Office Director Ana Brito noted that the High
Commissioner, Antonio Guterres, is a former Prime Minister of
Portugal. She suggested that a communication from his office
would greatly ease the Portuguese government's internal
processes.
