(C) The Government of Portugal (GOP) is in accord with the
U.S. views expressed reftel, according to Portuguese Ministry
of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Security and Disarmament Department
desk officer Felipe Rameira. He noted that their
investigations demonstrate that none of the cited companies
are doing business in Portugal, nor, as far as the GOP can
tell, are Portuguese companies doing business with these
companies elsewhere. He expressed disappointment, however,
that U.S. votes in the United Nations' First Committee have
not supported conventional disarmament efforts proposed by
such allies as the United Kingdom.
