¶1. (C) The Ambassador delivered Reftel demarche on the
adoption of a Chapter VII UNSC resolution to Foreign Minister
Oscar Maurtua on 7/18. Maurtua said he had seen nothing from
his UN Mission on the subject. He said that a resolution on
the issue appeared to be consistent with the principles of
non proliferation which Peru defends. FM Maurtua said he
expected that Peru will be supportive of our resolution and
that he would be in touch with his Mission to the UN.
