Minister of Health Dr. Pilar Mazetti and the Ministry's point
person for smallpox, Executive Director of Epidemiology Dr.
Gladys Ramirez. At that time and in subsequent
conversations, Ramirez said that Ministry officials were
studying various reports and formulating the GOP's position.
On 5/23, Ramirez told ESTHoff that she had recommended to the
Minister that Peru support the U.S. position; while Minister
Mazetti was going to review her staff's recommendation
enroute to Geneva. Ramirez said Mazetti was expected to
formally support the U.S. position.
