Sunday, December 03, 2006
-- Liberal Political Science professor Dr. Shafiq Al-Ghabra inquired
in moderate Arabic daily Al-Rai under the title "Turbulent
Challenges Facing Lebanon" (11/03):
"The major questions facing Lebanon are: Why the assassination of
all who spoke of a serious investigation into the assassination of
Al-Hariri? Who is the power behind the assassination whether it be
Lebanese or Arab? What will the international tribunal uncover?
Who are the real parties, inside or outside Lebanon, that are
concerned with this assassination? What is the limit for
Hezbollah's participation in the greater confrontation between Iran
and the United States?"
-- Under the title "The Culture of Violence, Extremism, and
Terrorism" Abdullah Al-Hadlaq penned in conservative Arabic daily
Al-Watan (12/03):
"It is clear that a culture of violence, extremist thinking,
terrorism, revolutionary ideologies, dissent, and contentiousness
are the elements of Hezbollah's ideology and direction. These have
been fed to it since its infancy by its Persian guardians who hide
behind religion in Tehran. And today Hezbollah is attempting to
implement these ideas to bring down the legitimate elected
government in Lebanon."
-- Satirical liberal columnist Fuad Al-Hashem commented in
conservative Arabic daily Al-Watan under the title "And Samia and
Madiha" (12/03):
"The attire of the six Lebanese ministers who resigned from
Siniora's cabinet is Iranian and their features are Syrian."
