Monday, October 2, 2006
-- Ghassan Suliman Al-Otaibi commented in progressive Arabic daily
Al-Qabas under the title "Islamic Vatican" (10/2):
"If the Vatican state is the focus of Christians worldwide, then
which state is the focus of Muslims? The existence of an Islamic
state with religious authority on all matters pertaining to religion
big and small is a good idea. I see Mecca and Medina as the two
nominees for an Islamic state in our time."
-- "How Can Arab and Islamic Countries Solve the Palestinians'
Financial Crisis?" was the title of Faisal Mahmoud Modwah's piece in
progressive Arabic daily Al-Qabas in which he editorialized (10/2):
"Arab and Muslim nations should withdraw their memberships from the
United Nations en masse if there is no resolution establishing a
financial institution directly under the supervision of the United
Nations. This institution should be charged with issuing
Palestinian currency independently inside Palestine. This currency
should be based on proper coverage provided by Arab and Islamic
states."
-- Liberal Political Science Professor Dr. Shafiq Al-Ghabra under
the title "Palestine Amidst a Crisis" wrote in moderate Arabic daily
Al-Rai Al-Aam stated that (10/2):
"In this harsh interim period, the Palestinian cause is suffering
one of its most difficult times. There is a vacuum that could cause
the entire government to collapse and over the horizon lurk chaos
and the possibility of confrontation. HAMAS and Fatah have both
lost the ability to lead."
