SUBJECT: DEMARCHE DELIVERED ON YEMENI VIOLATION OF UNSCR

(SBU) On January 30, Econoff delivered reftel points to
Ambassador Khaled Al-Mughamis, Director of the MFA's
Follow-up and Coordination department responsible for
terrorist designations. Al-Mughamis did not recall receiving
a U.N. 1267 Committee notification on Sheikh Abdul Majid
al-Zindani's 2004 designation. Econoff assured Al-Mughamis
that the designation had been carried out by the U.N. 1267
Committee and provided Al-Mughamis a copy of the Embassy's
February 17, 2004 dipnote informing the GOK of the
anticipated designation. Econoff also provided the 1267
Committee's website address whereby Al-Mughamis could confirm
the designation. Al-Mughamis offered to keep the Embassy
apprised of any discussions with the ROYG and asked for
similar feedback on the latest USG discussions with the ROYG
on the matter.
