1. (S/NF) CDA delivered reftel demarche the afternoon of June
8 to Shaykh Ahmad Nasser Al-Sabah, the Foreign Minister's
Office Director. We left non-paper with talking points and
Shaykh Ahmad said he would pass it to the Foreign Minister.
2. (S/NF) Commenting on the demarche, Shaykh Ahmad said the
GOK was fully supportive of the U.S. approach. Secretary
Rice had taken the diplomatic initiative back from Iran and
was now forcing Iran to react. Iran had been taken by
surprise he said, "And this really, really helps us alot."
Shaykh Ahmad said he understood our emphasis on public
statements encouraging Iran to react positively and would
highlight that point for the Foreign Minister.
