¶1. (SBU) MFA U/S Jarallah called the Ambassador the evening
of May 31 to say that the Amir and Crown Prince had been
briefed on our statement on Iran and welcomed the U.S. move.
An official statement had been released to the media.
¶2. Kuwait News Agency is carrying the following official
reaction in addition to the full text of the Secretary's
announcement:

Kuwait has welcomed on Wednesday the positive move announced
by the U.S. on joining EU-3 negotiations with Iran.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement released here today
that the State of Kuwait welcomes the announcement made by
the United States on joining the EU regarding the
negotiations with the aim of reaching a diplomatic solution
to Iran's nuclear file if Iran announces the suspension of
its uranium enrichment process.
It added, springing from keenness on realizing regional
security and stability, the State of Kuwait hopes that
neighboring Iran would respond to this move that would end up
in positive outcomes.
