(SBU) We delivered reftels' respective talking points to Nik Ady Arman, Assistant Secretary in the MFA's mulilateral political affairs division. Arman reiterated that Malaysia, "as a matter of principle," is generally not supportive of country specific resolutions proposed at the UN. He said, "To us, in most cases, these country specific resolutions are used by their sponsors as a tool to go after the target country on a bilateral basis." We told Arman that we would expect Malaysia to reject the three resolutions proposed by Belarus, to be consistent with Malaysia's typical stance of not supporting country-specific resolutions. Arman said he has passed to his superiors our three sets of talking points about the UNGA Third Committee's human rights resolutions, and that the MFA will consult with Malaysia's UN mission regarding the upcoming votes.
