1. (SBU) Post has been actively working at verifying the
welfare and whereabouts of three private citizens (named
above) reported missing since May 19, 2006. Although we have
not yet received official notification of confirmation of
their detention, we have learned that they are in custody of
DRC officials at a known location in Kinshasa.
2. (C) Post consular officer and RSO had a meeting scheduled
the morning of May 22 with the National Police's Chief of
Special Services. The meeting was postponed due to the
Chief's being called to the Presidency, apparently to discuss
this case. We expect to meet with the Chief later in the day
or the morning of May 23. We will insist upon immediate
consular access to the men, verify their welfare and
whereabouts, and provide appropriate assistance.
3. (SBU) Numerous U.S.-based companies and their
subsidiaries have called about this case. They include
Tactical Intelligence AQMI Strategy Corporation, Mirabilis
Ventures Inc. and Dutko Worldwide and as discussed with
CA/OCS by Consular Chief, post will refer all inquiries about
the case to CA/OCS.
