1. On March 28, poloff sent Diplomatic Note 093/06 to the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT)
announcing the U.S. candidacy for the International
Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council and requesting the
GOJ's support for election to the ITU Council. As requested
in reftel, poloff also delivered a courtesy copy of the Note
to the Ministry of Commerce, Science and Technology on the
same date.
2. On March 31, Embassy received a reply from the MFAFT via
Diplomatic Note 50/140/51, dated March 30. Begin text:
Complementary opening.
... has the honour to acknowledge receipt of the latter's
Note No. 093/06 dated 28th March 2006, requesting the support
of the Government of Jamaica for the candidature of the
United States for election to the Council of the
International Telecommunications Union (ITU) for the period
2008-2010, at the elections to be held during the ITU
Plenipotentiary Conference, 6th-24th November 2006 in
Antalya, Turkey.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade wishes to
advise that the candidature of the Government of the United
States of AMERICA is being given due consideration.
