(U) In a letter dated July 24, 2006, addressed to Joy Wheeler, Director Caribbean and Americas Department with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT),Acting Pol/Econ Counselor urged the GOJ to sign and ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention at the earliest possible time. ¶2. (U) On August 2, PolOff followed up with Wheeler who said that the issue has been raised with the Ministry of National Security and that she would also speak to Angella Brown, Deputy Director, International Organizations Department, MFAFT, regarding the issue.
