(C) On September 11, Emboff delivered reftel talking points
on the Iranian nuclear program to KP Pokharel, Under
Secretary for the United Nations and International Law in the
SIPDIS
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stressing that Iran poses a
serious threat to international peace and security and that
any final document from the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit
should not support Iran's nuclear activities. Pokharel
agreed that Iran's defiance of the UN Security Council was
counterproductive and that the international community needed
to stand together to send a message to Iran. Pokharel stated
that the Nepali delegation to the NAM Summit understood this
point well and would do what they could to avoid supporting
Iran.
