(SBU) On January 12, Post delivered demarche information on the addition of Sajid Mohammed Badet to the UN 1267 Sanctions Committee List to Under Secretary Kali Prasad Pokhrel, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ref A). Pokhrel stated that His Majesty's Government of Nepal (HMGN) continued to be supportive of efforts to combat terrorist financing and that the Central Bank continued to play its role by circulating UN 1267 terror finance lists to all banks and financial institutions in Nepal. He said there still have not been any cases in Nepal of accounts or assets found belonging to those listed under UN 1267. ¶2. (SBU) Emboff clarified with Pokhrel that the MFA wanted all UN 1267 lists delivered only to the MFA for further distribution (ref B). Pokhrel explained that, in the past, some Embassies had forwarded names directly to the Central Bank that were not actually on UN 1267 lists, which had caused confusion. As a result, he said, all UN 1267 lists should be sent to the MFA, after which the MFA would expeditiously forward them to the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank. He assured Emboff that that MFA would be notified if any information regarding listed individuals was discovered. MORIARTY
