1. Hours after its planned 1300 local time opening, Deputy
Speaker, now Acting Speaker upon the former Speaker's April
26 resignation, Chitralekha Yadav opened the House of
Representatives. The session lasted only about one-half
hour. Yadav started the session by reading King Gyanendra's
April 25 statement to the nation. She then announced the
appointment of GP Koirala as PM and the resignation of
Taranath Ranabhat as Speaker of the House. She announced the
PM's proposal to discuss constituent assembly elections,
which was registered. Yadav also welcomed CPI(M) MP
Yerchery, who attended the session. The session was
adjourned at 1730 local time. It will begin discussions
about a constituent assembly at 1600 local time on April 30.
2. CPN-UML announced that K.P. Oli would be its
parliamentary party leader, a big role as the leader directs
his party's decisions in Parliament. Nepali Congress
President and PM G.P. Koirala will be the NC parliamentary
party leader.
