This is an action request - see paragraph 3. ¶2. In order to comply with Leahy vetting requirements, this cable forwards the names and biodata of 19 Afghan National Police officers who have been selected for appointments as chief of police in high-priority districts and locations. These appointments will be made on a priority basis to meet the urgent security needs in these affected areas. Post has reviewed the information available on these individuals and has found no derogatory information. The United Nations Assistance Mission to Afghanistan (UNAMA) has vetted these individuals and has found no credible evidence of gross human rights violations. Post has made a good faith effort to ensure that the individuals with one name actually only have one name. ¶3. Request Department respond soonest so that the Ministry of Interior can move ahead with these urgent appointments. ¶4.
