INVITATION TO UNGA DEMOCRACY EVENT
REF: SECSTATE 149099
(U) The Ambassador used his meeting with President Karzai
on September 9 to extend the invitation (Ref) from President
Bush to the September 19 roundtable event on democracy at
UNGA. Palace spokesman Ershad Ahmadi confirmed to us on
September 14 that President Karzai will attend the event.
The Afghan Mission in NY and the Afghan Embassy in Washington
have been instructed to add it to Karzai's schedule. The
Palace relayed the request from President Karzai for
information beyond that provided in Ref regarding the event.
They asked specifically about format, agenda, and the
participation list -- if at all possible before September 16.
