Poloff delivered reftel demarche April 14 to Vu Van Mien,
Arms Control and International Organizations Expert at the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After consultation with the
Ministry of Transportation, Mien reported that the GVN is
still in the interagency clearance process on the 2005
Protocols to the UN Convention for the Suppression of
Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Maritime Navigation
(SUA) and its related protocol on Fixed Platforms. "We are
considering it," Mien reported, "but it will need further
study." Mien would not hazard a guess as to the timeframe
of a possible decision by the GVN on this issue.
