(SBU) Following is Congen Florence TIP report for the Republic of San Marino: Overview: San Marino is not a country of origin for international trafficking of persons, nor is it a country of transit or destination of such persons. According to Government officials, there has not been a case of trafficking, as defined in section 103 of the "victims of trafficking and violence protection act of 2000," in San Marino in 2005. ¶2. (SBU) PREVENTION: ¶B. There are no government agencies involved in anti-trafficking efforts in San Marino. ¶C. There have been no anti-trafficking information or education campaigns. ¶D. The Government does not support programs to prevent trafficking. ¶F. San Marino functions in all respects according to European community law and practice. ¶G. The San Marino government has applied a tight control of its territory through the years. Given the size of the country, religious standard and cultural traditions, the San Marino government has always received public support for enforcement of any laws prohibiting even misdemeanor misconduct of a sexual nature. Cases of voluntary prostitution have been extremely rare and limited in their duration. The government adequately monitors its borders and usually prevents the settlement of illegal immigrants. With only 25,000 inhabitants, this is a relatively simple task. H-J.San Marino has no specific working group or task force dealing with trafficking in persons. ¶3. (SBU) INVESTIGATION AND PROSECUTION OF TRAFFICKERS: A-D. San Marino has not enacted new legislation in 2005. ¶M. San Marino has no internal child sex tourism problem. ¶4. (SBU) PROTECTION AND ASSISTANCE TO VICTIMS: ¶B. San Marino has no regulations governing the protection and assistance of victims of trafficking, and there are no NGOs working in this area. The government does not provide funding to foreign NGOs specialized in services to the victims. San Marino is on record for providing assistance to various NGO programs in other areas, but no cases defined under the protocols listed above have arisen. ¶G.
