MacAodha confirmed Ireland's participation at the September 7 New York meeting of the States Parties to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights but said that while Professor Ruth Wedgwood is a strong nominee for the UN Human Rights Committee it is too early to promise Irish support for her candidacy. 2.
