¶1. (C) POLOFF delivered reftel demarche to Stephen Dawson,
Deputy Director of Middle East Affairs, Department of Foreign
Affairs, on December 4. Dawson agreed that the political
equation in Iran is fundamentally skewed and undemocratic,
though Ireland would not view the election of the Assembly of
Experts as being as significant as a Parliamentary or
Presidential election.
¶2. (C) Dawson agreed to let POLOFF know if Ireland's
Ambassador to Iran, John Deady, becomes aware of documentable
illegitimate election activities.
