SANCTIONS RESOLUTION

1. (C) Ambassador met with Minister of State for Foreign
Affairs Ahmed Al-Mahmoud (number two at the Qatari MFA)
December 13 to encourage Qatari support for the UK-French
draft Iran sanctions resolution (reftel). Al-Mahmoud said
Qatar followed French amendments closely and is "positively"
inclined to support the resolution. If a consensus can be
reached, he said Qatar would also support it. If the
resolution comes to a vote, he said "we will make a decision
at that time," while leaning toward support.
