1. (SBU) On 4 September, Ambassador demarched several key
issues (reftel) to Minister of Foreign Affairs Morshed Khan.
2. (C) Ambassador requested Bangladesh to support Guatemala's
candidacy to the United Nations Security Council. Khan said
that the newly appointed Venezuelan Ambassador based in New
Delhi, while in Bangladesh to present her credentials, asked
for support of Venezuela's bid for the UNSC seat. However, he
said, there has been no similar request of support from
Guatemala. "They need to make that request," he said.
3. (C) The Ambassador raised the issue of NAM's draft
communiqu on terrorism, which excluded defining terrorism
resulting from wars of national liberation. Khan made no
substantive comment.
4. (C) In response to Ambassador's demarche that that the
NAM's statements on the Middle East were one sided, Khan
responded that "we do not encourage unbalanced reactions, and
want parties to follow the Road Map."
