CODEX ALIMENTARIUS TASK FORCE ON BIOTECHNOLOGY

The Government of Tanzania (GOT) did not receive an
invitation in enough time to make preparations to attend the
ad hoc meeting of the Task Force on Biotechnology of the
Codex Alimentarius Commission in Chiba Japan, according to
Dr. Claude Mosha, Chief Standards Officer in the Food and
Agricultural Section of the Tanzanian Bureau of Standards.
Mosha assured EconOff that the reftel points and background
paper would be transmitted to the appropriate officials at
the Tanzanian Embassy in Tokyo who will represent the GOT at
this meeting. Mosha said he would encourage these
representatives to meet with the U.S. delegation in Chiba
should they have questions on the United States' proposal to
begin new work to develop an annex to the RDNA plant
guideline.
