1. Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, Director of the Multilateral
Affairs Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation (MFA),reiterated how important it
was that UN Security Council (UNSC) members were united in
their support of UNSC Resolution 1718. She told Poloff, "By
sending a unanimous message, I believe our objective was
realized."
2. Regarding measures to enforce the resolution, Ambassador
Mulamula noted that once the guidelines for implementation
were released, the MFA would coordinate with stakeholders,
such as the Ministry of Finance and the customs agency, to
ensure that Tanzania was complying with the resolution. When
asked about the extent of North Korea's activities in
Tanzania, Ambassador Mulamula responded that while Tanzania
maintains "good" diplomatic relations with North Korea,
Tanzania has no significant trade or business with the
Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK). That said,
Ambassador Mulamula promised to ensure the thorough
examination of any assets which may be connected directly or
indirectly to North Korea.
