(C) DCM presented Reftel demarche to Maldivian Foreign
Minister Ahmed Shaheed in Male' February 12. Shaheed said
that the Government of the Republic of Maldives is still
considering UN reform issues, but is generally sympathetic to
the U.S. position. Shaheed noted that his government
strongly supported the Human Rights Council concept, all the
way up to President Gayoom, who called it "a great idea" when
Shaheed briefed him on it.
