NATIONAL TERRORIST LIST

1. (SBU) EconOff coordinated with US TreasuryOff located in
Sri Lanka to obtain the following information requested
reftel. The Government of Maldives (GOM) does not maintain a
national list of banned terrorist organizations. The GOM
does not identify any terrorist groups in its country.
Although US TreasuryOff was informed that the GOM is
conducting an investigation into Islamic extremism, US
TreasuryOff understood that the investigation does not
concern terrorism, and is more political in nature.
2. (SBU) A GOM contact told US TreasuryOff that when the GOM
receives diplomatic notes from other countries regarding
terrorist groups, the Maldives Monetary Authority "sometimes"
passes this information on to banks in the form of a
circular. But no formal procedures have been established for
management of this information.
