1. (SBU) Pol Chief and POLOFF presented the offer for a
Global Peace Operations Initiative Partnership with Sri Lanka
(ref a) to MFA Additional Secretary for Multilateral Affairs
Maduwedegera on October 25. Maduwedegera appeared interested
and asked several questions for clarification. He undertook
to vet the issue with higher levels of the Sri Lankan
government.
2. (SBU) We indicated that we would seek an appointment to
make a presentation to Defense Ministry officials when DATT
returns from the current Marine Expeditionary Unit exercise
in Maldives. Embassy will follow up with senior officials of
MFA and MoD to determine Sri Lankan interest in participating.
