(C) Foreign Secretary HGMS Palihakkara called Ambassador on
October 19 regarding Guatemala's bid for a UN Security
Council seat. Palihakkara said he understood the high
priority the U.S. has placed on this matter. He assured us
that Sri Lanka would continue to vote for Guatemala for a UN
Security Council seat in future ballots. The Ambassador
thanked the Foreign Secretary for the pledge of continued
support.
