AGREEMENT
REF: (A) STATE 056169 (B) 05 STATE 220707
1. Per reftel requests, post sent a diplomatic note to the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, designating all U.S. carriers to
operate scheduled and charter transportation on the US route(s),
under the United States-Maldives Air Transport Agreement, and
requesting on the basis of reciprocity a note from the Government of
Maldives that designates all Maldivian carriers.
2. The Foreign Ministry has responded accepting the designation of
all US airlines by the US Government. Further, the Government of
Maldives recognizes its reciprocal right to designate all Maldivian
airlines under the agreement and agrees to make such designation at
the appropriate time.
3. We have sent by fax copies of the relevant diplomatic notes to
Laurence Jones at EB/TRA/AN and DOT's David Modesitt.
