SUBJECT: GOVERNMENT OF EGYPT INDICATES INTEREST IN
PEACE-BUILDING COMMISSION EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP

The following is an Embassy translation of a Ministry of
Foreign Affairs diplomatic note received January 23, 2006:

Begin text:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs - the Office of the Deputy
Assistant Minister for International Political Relations -
extends its regards to the Embassy of the United States of
America in Cairo and informs it that the Arab Republic of
Egypt has submitted a request to be nominated for membership
of the Executive Committee of the Peace-building Commission
by members of the General Assembly. Voting (on the
membership) is expected to take place in New York by
mid-February.

In light of relations and cooperation between our countries,
we hope that the Egyptian nomination request for membership
of the aforementioned Commission would win the support of
your respectable government.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs - the Office of the Deputy
Assistant Minister for International Political Relations -
seizes this opportunity to express its sincere appreciation
to the respectable Embassy.

End MFA text.
