1. (C) Ambassador, accompanied by POLOFF, met with FM Jorge
Taiana April 18 to discuss reftel points and asked for
Argentina's support for a strong Chapter VII resolution
requiring Iran to comply with the steps called for in the
UNSC Presidential Statement and in past IAEA Board of
Governor resolutions and reports.
2. (C) Taiana said that Argentina was "worried" about Iran
and was following the crisis very closely. He said the GOA
attached a great deal of importance to statements by IAEA
chief Mohammed El-Baradei and other IAEA assessments of the
situation. He said that Argentina wanted an outcome
supported by consensus and one which preserved the right to
peaceful nuclear energy development.
