1. (SBU) SDKU and Ministry of Defense insiders informed
Embassy late today that the Prime Minister would name current
State Secretary of Defense Martin Fedor (31) to replace
Minister of Defense Liska. The announcement is expected to be
made publicly later this evening.
2. (C) The decision was made by the Prime Minister's SDKU
party and no other candidates were considered for the post.
No opposition to the decision is expected. Robert Kalinak,
Chairperson of the Parliaments Defense Committee and a member
of Smer, the largest opposition party, apparently called
Fedor over the weekend to say that he could only support his
candidacy. No opposition is expected from the President, who
must approve the selection.
