SUBJECT: PRIVATE CARGO PLANE ACCIDENT AT RIO NEGRO; NO
INJURIES, BUT PLANE DAMAGED

(SBU) At approximately 07:03 on June 7, a 747 cargo aircraft,
N922FT, operated by Tradewinds International, a U.S. company
based in North Carolina, was damaged during takeoff when the
number one engine apparently failed. The plane reportedly
skidded off the runway at the Rio Negro airport, Antioquia
Department, outside of the city of Medellin. The five
American citizen crew members on board were not injured.
Their families were notified by Tradewinds International.
Post contacted State Operations Center, the Transportation
Security Administration and local civil aviation authorities,
who had already contacted the National Transportation Safety
Board. Post will continue to monitor developments in the
removal of the aircraft, which is unable to fly at this time.
