GERMANY SUPPORTS U.S. CANDIDACY FOR ITU COUNCIL

In response to the diplomatic notes relayed to German government as instructed in reftel, post recently received two Notes Verbal, both dated October 16. The first Note Verbal confirmed German support for the U.S. candidacy to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council in the upcoming election at its Plenipotentiary Conference in Antalya on November 6-24, 2006. The second note stated the German government's support for the candidacy of Julie Napier Zoller to the Radio Regulations Board of the ITU. This note reiterated the request of the German government for U.S. support of the candidate of Matthias Kurth, currently head of the German Federal Regulatory Agency, to the post of General Secretary of the ITU.
