EXPAND UN PARTICIPATION OF DEPENDENT COUNTRIES

¶1. (U) Per reftel, post PolOff delivered demarche to Belize
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Desk Officer for Central
America - Guatemala, Taiwan and the Caribbean Alphonso
Gahona.
¶2. (SBU) Gahona sought information from the Belize Mission
to the United Nations (UN) on the proposed resolution.
Gahona stated that Belize UN delegates had attended a
CARICOM group meeting on Wednesday March 15, where they
informally asked about the proposed resolution from other
member states, but were not able to get a definitive
response. Gahona conveyed that after speaking with Belize
Mission to the UN and MFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Lawrence Sylvester that Belize has no additional information
and has no position on a resolution intending to support
establishment of associate members in the UN's Economic and
Social Council (ECOSOC).
