SUBJECT: BELIZE: RELATIONS ESTABLISHED WITH OMAN

1. (U) Belize established diplomatic relations with the
Sultanate of Oman on March 3, in New York. Charge d'
Affairs, Janine Coye-Felson, of the Belize Mission to the
United Nations signed on behalf of Belize. The Government
of Belize (GoB) stated that establishment of relations with
Oman is another step towards broadening Belize's diplomatic
reach and identifying potential markets with non-traditional
trading partners.
2. (SBU) Per reftel, a Belizean government official and
former Ambassador stated to post that it has long been a
goal of Prime Minister Said Musa to establish diplomatic
relations with Saudi Arabia; not yet successful in this
effort, Musa sought, as an alternative, to establish
relations with other countries in the region.
