SUBJECT: TADIC SENDS CONGRATULATORY LETTER FOR JULY 4TH
1. (u) On July 6, the Embassy received a letter from President
Boris Tadic to the President to offer congratulations on the
occasion of our national holiday. Text of letter below. Original
has been forwarded to the department via pouch.
2. (u) Begin text of letter:
July 4, 2006
Dear Mr. President,
I write on my own behalf and on behalf of the citizens of the
Republic of Serbia to offer our country's most sincere good wishes
on the occasion of the celebration of Independence Day.
As you know, the challenges the Western Balkans faces in the time to
come are numerous. This year is a crucial one for consolidating
democracy, economic development, and moving decisively on the full
European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Balkans. I am
hopeful that America will maintain its support for these regional
strategic imperatives, which in my view require finding a
negotiated, mutually-acceptable solution to the future status of
Kosovo and Metohija.
I am certain that the years ahead will be characterized by the
continued deepening of our bilateral relations. I look forward to
us working together toward further enhancing the security and
prosperity of our citizens.
Please accept, Mr. President, the assurances of my highest
consideration.
(signed)
Boris Tadic
President of the Republic of Serbia
