This is an action request, see para 1.
1. (U) On June 15, 2006, the Embassy received
from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a request to
support the re-election of Momcilo Simic,
Assistant Minister for Capital Investments of the
Republic of Serbia, to the Radio Regulations
Board of the Council of the International
Telecommunications Union (ITU). Copies of the
note and Mr. Simic's curriculum vitae have been
faxed to the desk. Text of note follows. Action
request: please advise whether or not the USG
will support the MFA's request. End action
request.
2. (u) Begin Text of Dipnote:
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic
of Serbia presents its compliments to the
Embassies of the Member States of the
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in
Belgrade and has the honour to inform that the
Government of the Republic of Serbia has decided
to present the candidature of Mr. Momcilo Simic,
Assistant Minister for the Capital Investment of
the Republic of Serbia, for the re-election to
the Radio Regulations Board of the Council of the
ITU, as the elections during the Plenipotentiary
Conference to be held from 6 to 24 November 2006,
in Antalia, Turkey.
Mr. Momcilo Simic, whose curriculum vitae is
enclosed, is an eminent expert and has been
dealing with the ITU activities for more than 30
years. He was the Chairman of the Radio
Regulations Board in 2004 and its Vice-Chairman
in 2003.
The Government of the Republic of Serbia would
highly appreciate the valuable support of the
Member States of the International
Telecommunication Union (ITU) for the candidature
of Mr. Momcilo Simic.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic
of Serbia avails itself of this opportunity to
renew to the Embassies of the Member States of
the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
in Belgrade the assurances of its highest
consideration.
