SUBJECT: LEBANESE RESPONSE TO U.S. CANDIDATE FOR ITU RADIO
REGULATORY BOARD
REF: STATE 51211
On April 26, econoff delivered reftel diplomatic note
concerning the candidacy of Julie Napier for the
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Radio Regulations
Board to Ghady El-Khoury, Head of the Americas Desk, at the
Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. El-Khoury did not know
at this time if Lebanon would support the U.S. candidate. He
said if the Arab League supported a candidate, Lebanon would
likely support that candidate. El-Khoury said the decision
would likely be made at the Ministerial level. He promised
to raise Napier's candidacy with Foreign Minister Fawzi
Salloukh as soon as possible.
