(C) Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing urged the Ambassador
on October 27 to convey the message to Washington that China
"absolutely would not accept" a meeting between Taiwan Vice
Minister of Foreign Affairs Chang Siao-yue and A/S
Christopher Hill at the Post-Pacific Island Forum meeting in
Nandi, Fiji. Li cautioned that the issue was very important
to China and to "please take care." Li pulled the Ambassador
aside following the meeting, a courtesy call on Li by
Treasury U/S Tim Adams, to stress the importance Beijing
places on this matter.
