1. (SBU) Poloff delivered reftel demarche to Paisit
Boonparlit from MFA's North Americas Division and to Charn
Jullamon from the International Organizations Division.
Paisit confirmed that Thailand has offered 12 military
engineers for deployment to Darfur as requested by the UN.
The caretaker Thai Cabinet has apparently already approved
the deployment. The UN is reportedly considering the
request.
2. (C) Separately, Emboffs raised the issue with LTG Niphat
Thonglek. Niphat, recently returned from the joint EU-ASEAN
Aceh peace monitoring mission, indicated that the Royal Thai
Army supported a deployment to Darfur if funding were
provided.
