KOREAN MISSILE LAUNCHES
REF: STATE 111132
1. (U) POLOFF delivered reftel demarche on 6 July to MFA
spokesman George Koumoutsakos. On the same day, Koumoutsakos
released the following statement during a briefing with
diplomatic journalists and foreign correspondents (also
posted on the MFA's website: www.mfa.gr).
2. (U) Begin text of statement:
Yesterday's launching of ballistic missiles by North Korea
gives rise to particular concern. The Greek government
condemns this action, which does not contribute to global
security and peace, and which creates serious problems for
the effort to limit the proliferation of weapons of mass
destruction.
Greece, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council,
is already collaborating closely with the other member states
of the Council to send the necessary message to North Korea.
End Text.
