On 5/31, in the absence of the Foreign Minister, the
Ambassador spoke with Acting FM Emilio Gimenez. Drawing from
reftel points, he stressed the importance the U.S. attached
to Paraguay's issuing a statement in support of the U.S.
initiative on Iran. Gimenez informed the Ambassador that FM
Rachid was returning to Paraguay this evening and that he
would discuss this matter with her immediately. FM Rachid
would consult with President Duarte this evening (5/31).
Gimenez expected Paraguay would not/not issue a statement
this evening (5/31) but committed to getting back to us early
tomorrow (6/1) with Paraguay's response.
