PolCouns met with Terami Matsuo, the MFA's Director of
International Organizations, on November 1, to request
Paraguay support the U.S. candidate to the UN's International
Law Commission, Michael Matthewson. Matsuo recalled
Paraguay's request that the U.S. support Paraguay's candidate
for the Presidency of the Interamerican Commission on Women
in exchange for Paraguay's support for Matthewson. PolCouns
stressed U.S. readiness to consider Argana seriously as a
candidate for the Presidency but that we were not in a
position to commit to an exchange of votes. Matsuo said that
Paraguay would consider Mattewson seriously as a candidate
for the UN International Law Commission.
